Wedding Photographer Ottawa | Nicole and Brett Married | National Arts Center Wedding

 I met Nicole and Brett in January 2012 to discuss their August 2013 wedding, we hit it off immediately and I knew they were going to be fantastic to work with, I was right, they were! Their engagement shoot was a blast, their wedding was just amazing and their "Rock the Frock" session (also known as Trash the Dress) was a blast too! (Coming soon!)

Will post images from that winter wonderland photo session soon!  Here are some of my favourite images from their day and how they met in Nicole's words. You both did such a wonderful job planning this wedding. Nicole you are beautiful.

 How they met...

Brett and I met back in 2007 - we were both university co-op students working at a public accounting firm. Our cubicles were right next to each other - and apparently most of the office could see the chemistry between us before we even knew it! When we did start dating officially, we still thought we were doing a great job keeping it a secret, but everyone already knew.

We like to think we aren't your typical accountants - from 100 feet above bungee jumping, to 100 feet below scuba diving, we thrive on traveling and adventure! It was after a three and a half month backpacking trip across Fiji, Australia and New Zealand that we knew this was forever - being with the same person for 24/7 for that length of time and on a budget, doesn't always bring out the best in people, but we thrived!

The wedding day was perfect. Our only complaint; that it went by way too fast!

 

 

 

We really enjoyed heading to Heart & Crown for some drinks with the bridal party after the ceremony (during pictures) - it was so nice to have some time to step back and just hang out and enjoy the day with our best friends and each other.

How they met...

Aaron and I met for the first time over 4 years ago at Kelseys in Brockville. We went on a blind date with our two best friends that happened to be dating at the time. Three years later Aaron waited till Christmas Eve while we were at my family hunting cabin in the middle of the bush, to speak with my father about taking my hand in marriage.

Later that night while my parents opened their gifts Aaron pulled out a box, which I thought was an ipod, as I always borrow his.  Then I saw the tears in his eyes, and the rest is history!

Lights, camera...it's show time! Let's get married on stage!

Jamie had an idea that she wanted her wedding to be blinged out and to get married on a stage! The beautiful Brockville Arts Center was the perfect setting for such an utterly unique wedding.

 Being a well known hairstylist in Brockville with a long list of clients and friends that she wanted to invite to her wedding, she decided she would open her wedding up for anyone who wished to attend. Jamie had clients who were dancers who wanted to be a part of the ceremony too. The whole thing played out like a real life, live show with choreographed dancing-a dramatic musical love story...

...Instead of gifts, 

guests bought tickets...

Veering even further from the traditional wedding day I usually photograph, Jamie and Aaron also made their wedding ceremony a fund raiser. Instead of gifts, guests bought tickets to the ceremony and Jamie and Aaron donated the money raised to The Heart and Stroke Foundation and Brides for The Cure. Both of them had lost very close family members to cancer and heart problems.

The vendors used for her wedding did so at a reduced cost in order to make the event a success.  Her clients put on a few dance sequences throughout the ceremony...making this the most unique wedding this photographer has ever attended.

 The reception was held at the picturesque Maplehurst Manor  in Maitland, Ontario, such a beautiful setting for a wedding or reception.

Genny and Darrel picked the picturesque town of Merrickville to get married. Remember this fun couple from *Here* It was a beautiful wedding and a beautiful day here are some images and the story of their journey to that day....

A cliff and a gun, 'No' is not an option!...

Darrel and I met in our first year of high school in grade 9. We sat near each other in many classes during our high school years, we ended up becoming pretty good friends but lost touch after graduation. On a snowy stormy day, I went out for lunch with my friend Natalie Gillen. Later that night Natalie went to her friend’s home, where Darrel also was.

                                                  He asked her for my number,
                                                   he called me that evening...


She mentioned to him how we had lunch earlier. He asked her for my number, he called me that evening and we spoke for nearly an hour. I had to end our conversation because I was leaving for the Dominican Republic but I told him I’d call him upon my return. I called him when I returned, we went out for dinner and the conversation flowed easily and natural it was so easy and fun. Months went by and we were still hanging out as friends, it blossomed from there.

 Six years and three dogs later on October 8th 2012 as we did every thanksgiving weekend Darrel brought me to his hunting camp in Calabogie for a hike, four-wheeling and to shoot skeet’s. It was a beautiful cool day, we hiked 45 mins to go to the lookout which oversees the picturesque view with all the Fall colours.

 but I didn’t think anything of it...

Darrel was throwing the skeet’s while I attempted to shoot them. Darrel would reload the gun then I continued to fire, after another time needing to reload I went and grabbed more bullets. In the box of bullets there was a smaller box but I didn’t think anything of it other than it held smaller bullets. When I turned around, there was Darrel trying to kneel down awkwardly. He said “You missed something” then he reached in the box and took out the smaller box and opened it and proposed. We both forget what he said but defiantly remember saying yes. Walking back from the lookout Darrel said” I’m so happy you said yes" I replied "you brought me to a cliff with a gun, I wasn't going to say “no"
